Anyways, I was put in mind of a really disconcerting book I recently read called "Thank God for the Atomic Bomb" by Paul Fussel. I think it would be good candidate for book discussion for Tue Coffee Klatch at the Merc. It's a well written, cogently argued discussion of an alternative assessment of the so-called MAD concept behind the nuclear arms race. I was not personally persuaded to entirely accept the author's arguments but found the presentation good grist for the synapse mill. It definitely gets your attention . SvH |
