Downed power line apparent cause of the fire (
https://denver.cbslocal.com/2021/11/16/kruger-rock-fire-estes-park-power-lines/ ).
Three things of note:
1. Weather conditions have been even drier than last year since August (based on my own measurements), dropping fuel moisture to near record-low levels for this time of year;
2. West of here this has been a good monsoon season and wet early fall, reducing this year's Colorado wildfire season to a mere fraction of last year's - but see 1. for local conditions;
3. There is a cold front that is heading our way to reduce wind speeds/raise humidities/drop a little snow on us (our once-weekly skiff of snow, meh!) tonight into tomorrow morning. This should help to contain the Kruger Rock Fire tomorrow.

Good afternoon- The Estes Park fire is nothing like last year's Calwood. The growth rate is considerably slower, and the wind has come off of it a bit. Big Elk, Pinewood Springs and Buttonrock areas are all under evacuations, and there are a number of resources from Boulder and Larimer counties engaged. HWY 7 is accessible to fire and evacuations, however 36 is closed past Big Elk, which will divert traffic into Lefthand, Sunshine and Boulder Canyons. Allenspark, Lyons and Pinewood are all committed with resources on the fire and Lefthand is helping backfill for Allenspark and Lyons. Our mit crew is working with the county handcrew module on the fire. There are no aircraft currently assigned to the fire, and the USFS has a number of resources on it as well. Crews will be on it overnight tonight and tomorrow.

Crews are still on the fire today and tomorrow. They were able to recover the pilot from last nights crash. Conditions were much more favorable today!
