Long Rope for Tug of War - Kristin - 07-03-2023 This may be a long shot but does anyone know where the rope is that we’ve used for Tug of War on the 4th? Or does anyone have one we can use? May be fun in the rain! Thanks! RE: Long Rope for Tug of War - Kristin - 07-03-2023 Rope had been found. Thanks! RE: Long Rope for Tug of War - CheyenneWills - 07-03-2023 To avoid injuries, you need to be aware that there are specific types of rope that can be used for tug of war. "The TOWA endorses the use of polypropelene, sisal or manilla hemp ropes Tug of war ropes should be between 10 - 12.5cm in circumference and a competition rope should be a minimum of 36 metres in length." Climbing ropes (which typically have a 3.4cm circumference for a 11mm rope), other thinner ropes, or the wrong type of material can cause sever injuries if used. The problem with the thin ropes is if some people let go or lose their grip the rope can run through the other people's fingers and would cause rope burns. Also thinner ropes (or different materials) can break due to the potential forces, which causes the rope to snapback.
