RE: Thinking of you - RandyO - 09-12-2023 Hello Julie, Matt and Family, Licata Family, and Betty, The Caboose you ask about arrived in Jimtown from Rollinsville, sometime in the 70's. Timewise, that's as close as I know. But, - the Caboose was loaded on a large flatbed truck in Rollinsville and made the journey to Jimtown. Jim Morehouse (who I was Lucky to get a job in High-tech with((after being a Baker)) traveled with the Caboose from Rollinsville. When they got to Overland Road, he climbed up the built-in ladder on the back. And rode down Overland Road on TOP of the Caboose ! YEE -HAW !! Or Holy 5hit !! Anyway- that's All I know-- It is a Beautiful Thing, and imagine where it Traveled before landing Here--- RE: Thinking of you - Matt Julie CK - 09-12-2023 (09-11-2023, 12:25 PM)betty dowe Wrote: Thanks Sal. Can anyone tell me about the history of the caboose? Thanks Randy! Yep the caboose was brought here by Morehouse in the ‘70 to be a bedroom for their 3 sons. Morehouse got it from Jimmy Keith. JK bought 12 cabooses from the company after they closed- they’re spread around the canyons- Lyons, Ned, Lefthand, etc. However our specific caboose- is an 1890’s Drovers’ caboose- these cabooses were used to house the cowboys. Trains used to transport cattle- trains would breakdown -cattle died- so they started adding cowboys and horses to release the cattle and let them graze until the train was fixed. Hope this helps ? RE: Thinking of you - betty dowe - 09-12-2023 Wow! Thanks Randy and Julie I love hearing about these bits of JT. Makes me love it all the more. I will miss you and your family, Julie. I'll think of you every time I pass your house. |
