...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 7 PM MST SATURDAY...
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM MST THIS
EVENING...
.DISCUSSION...Today and tonight...
Dry conditions and above normal temperatures continue today
across the lower elevations. Min relative humidity values drop
into the 13-20 percent range with areas of values less than 13
percent possible. Winds lean on the lighter end, decreasing the
threat for widespread critical fire weather conditions; however
gusts 20-30 mph will promote critical fire weather conditions in
southern Lincoln County this afternoon. A Red Flag Warning will be
in effect for that areas this afternoon. Otherwise, there may be
areas of elevated conditions for an hour or two this afternoon
elsewhere across the plains.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Saturday through Tuesday...
Southwest winds strengthen considerably in the high country Saturday and remain
strong into Sunday with gusts above 60 mph for high elevations.
Breezy conditions will extend into lower elevations Saturday,
particularly later in the day, and combine with low humidity to
result in widespread critical fire weather conditions Saturday
afternoon across most of the plains and urban corridor. A cold
front moving north to south Sunday will bring cooler and more
humid conditions to most areas, although localized critical
conditions may return to parts of the southern plains depending on
the speed of the front. Next week may bring additional periods of
unsettled weather and breezy conditions, but details are highly
uncertain and the forecast is likely to change. Expect Good to
Excellent smoke dispersal for most areas each afternoon.
