Red Flag Warning
for Larimer and Boulder Counties Between 6000 and 9000 ft

Issued by National Weather Service
Denver/Boulder, CO
04:25 MDT Sun, Jul 14, 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR THUNDERSTORMS WITH DRY LIGHTNING FOR THE MOUNTAINS, FOOTHILLS, AND EASTERN LARIMER COUNTY...

The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a Red Flag Warning for thunderstorms, which is in effect from noon today to 9 PM MDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* Affected Area...Fire Weather Zones 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 218 and 238.

* Timing...12 PM to 9 PM MDT Sunday.

* Winds...Gusty winds up to 45 mph near showers and storms.

* Relative Humidity...As low as 13 percent.

* Impacts...Conditions will be favorable for lightning-induced ignitions from mostly dry thunderstorms. Locally erratic outflow winds near thunderstorms could promote rapid wildfire spread in the event of a new start. If a fire were to become established, conditions could be favorable for large vertical plume growth.

* Thunderstorms...Isolated to scattered (15-25% coverage) of mostly dry thunderstorms is expected Sunday afternoon, potentially extending into early evening. Thunderstorms will be high-based, producing little, if any, precipitation, and thus resulting in an increased threat of lightning-induced ignitions.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
