Bears are out …and about those bats - Michelle - 04-06-2022

Well, here we are again. Bear tracks were reported in the Jamestown area by a bat researcher working near the Blue Jay Mine. So it’s time to ensure the backyard compost is buried, food scraps are frozen until garbage day, and windows and doors are secured. Bring down the bird feeders and give our incoming migrants a leg up!

Oh, and about those bats. You will now see that the hoist house at the Blue Jay Mine has been shored up to protect a bat maternity roost. Signage has been posted. Hopefully this will give them some peace and quiet Smile

The Blue Jay Mine area has a number of interesting species using the area. If there is interest in an educational “bat walk” this summer, let me know via email.

Hey Thanks Bat Girl!    Tongue

Yes our BEARS are coming out of their hibernation fog.

If you are new to town or not sure how to Protect Your Home, Cars and Property from unwanted Bear visits, post here or look me up in the JT Directory.
One of us SOBs (Save Our Bear Group) will respond.  We are beginning our 5th Bear Season since we last "destroyed" a Bear in our village for getting into trouble.
Let's do our best to SAVE OUR BEARS and Co-Exist.

1) Stash your TRASH (all of it, BEARS are very smart and industrious)
2) Clean and LOCK your vehicles and homes! (a tube of chapstick will get a Bears attention)
3) Take in BIRD FEEDERS at night (black sunflower seed is like "crack" to BEARS!)
4) Clean your grill after use.  (There are ways to deter Bears w/ ammonia etc.)

Please report ALL BEAR and LION sightings/encounters here or directly to me: john.hardman@jimtown.org
Tell your neighbors who may not read this BB.  Let's all work together and help one another.

TO BE CLEAR:  We track OUR BEAR activity so as to PROTECT our People AND our BEARS!
And work closely with CPW to SAVE OUR BEARS!  Nothing more, nothing less.
