I had a bear visit last night on Ridge. They bent the lock bar on my garage door, only the second time in 20 years. They tore recycling bags, but didn’t seem to chew on any recycling. They tore a tarp, knocked over tore up and trampled boxes of old clothes and tools. Then, they apparently drank a big jug of orange degreaser and threw it up everywhere. I would say that this is a desperate bear.

Hey Julia ~
Thanks for the Intel! Sorry for your messed up garage too. This Bear/s is quite determined and obviously an experienced
"urban forager".
I spoke to Brooke at the JT Food Share and she said the Bear/s at her house were a MAMA and 2 CUBS!
Teaching those cubs bad manners! Everyone, be very careful with this Mama. Give her lots of space
if you should be trying to Haze her and/or the Cubs.

Hi Jon!
I was asleep so I didn’t get a chance to haze anyone, but if cubs were involved, the chaos and drinking cleaning products would make sense. They got into everything but the can of garbage! I’ve a new door lock, restocked pinesol and am keeping an eye out. If they return, I’ll do the banshee howl and stock pot racket and send them off.
I’ve seen mama bears teaching their cubs to climb trees to retrieve suspended bags of backpacker’s food. Hopefully, we can discourage these from making break ins a habit.
