Update; COVID-19 Surge in Colorado & Boulder County
#1
I have been attending COVID-19 related ZOOM meetings on behalf of the Town.  I hope you find the following information helpful.

November, 2021 – Boulder County Economic Recovery and Administrative Agencies ZOOM Meetings
There has been a dramatic surge in COVID cases since October in Colorado and other mountain states.  Colorado is currently the fifth worst state in the nation when counting new cases.  Boulder County however is doing a little better than the State and other Front Range counties.

According to Boulder County Public Health, the current surge will continue to worsen.  They expect 15,000 hospitalizations and 2,000 deaths in Colorado between now and the end of February 2022.  This is additional stress on the already stressed healthcare system.

The current Boulder County public health order 2021-08 requires indoor masking in all public places except when eating or drinking in restaurants.  Masks are recommended outdoors in crowded areas.

Vaccinate, Vaccinate, Vaccinate:

About 80% of new COVID cases are among the unvaccinated.  Most of recent deaths are among those over the age of 80 and are not associated with long term care facilities.

If you have not been vaccinated, now is the time to reconsider.

If you have children age 5 and older get an appointment to vaccinate them. One in four COVID cases are children under the age of 12.  Currently about 16% of children age 5-12 have received their first dose.

Per Governor Polis’ Executive Order (Nov. 11, 2021), every adult age 18 and above in Colorado is now eligible for a booster if it has been six months or more since your last Pfizer or Moderna vaccine dose or two months since your Johnson & Johnson dose.

Currently, there is high demand for the vaccine and appointments are becoming scarce.  Keep trying.  Be patient.

There are currently monoclonal antibody treatments that may prevent or reduce the need for hospitalization.

A word about the Flu:  here is an uptick in flu cases in college towns nationally and in Boulder.  Masks also protect against the Flu as does the flu vaccine.
