Power of Wind

Like blades of grass
on prairie winds blow
mountain trees whip, sway
to and fro

Nature cares naught
it simply does
large ones fall
smaller ones break

Great Englemann spruce, sub-alpine fir
some two foot round, fall to ground
They lean on neighbors
as sometimes we’re bound

The old man surveys
much work ahead
young Ian will build
strong as a bear

Fallen trees to yield
transform into fire
it comforts and gives
from warmth to desire

The birds carry on
as always they do
chickadees, juncos
woodpeckers, too

It's but another day
in the lives of mountain folk
we’re only grains of sand
in the land of grand grand

Give thanks to the wind
refreshes, renews
bigger than we know
from our seats in the pews

For God gives us life
the chance of rebirth
from the power of wind
comes redemption in nature
the gift to mankind
befalls all into future
