The Colorado Department of Public Health and Boulder County Public Health Department have recently expanded the categories of people who must quarantine after a known exposure to the virus.

An exposure is defined as an individual who has had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes) with a COVID-19 case in the two days prior to symptom onset, through the cases isolation period.  If you are aware of having been exposed, please follow these guidelines.

Who needs to quarantine? – Close contacts who are not up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccines

• Have not completed a primary COVID-19 vaccine series – Primary series: two doses of Pfizer or Moderna, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson, for some immunocompromised people, a primary series may include three doses.

–
New! People who have completed a primary vaccine series but have not received a third/booster dose and are eligible:

• 12 or older and received your second dose of Pfizer at least five months ago
• 18 or older and received your second dose of Moderna at least five months ago
• 18 or older and received your J&J/Janssen vaccine at least two months ago

People who don’t need to quarantine after exposure include:

 • People that are up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccines – Received all recommended vaccine doses, including third doses and additional primary shots for some immunocompromised people. (people who are eligible for a booster and have received one)
• People who have tested positive for COVID-19 (with a viral test, not an antibody test) within the past 90 days
