Cal-Wood's Christmas Tree Fundraiser
#1
Hi everyone - if you saw a lot of Christmas trees coming down the hill yesterday, don't worry, it was all for a good cause!

Every year Cal-Wood hosts a "Christmas Tree Fundraiser" around the same time as Colorado Gives Day.  It's our biggest fundraiser of the year and allows us to continue our fire mitigation efforts! Every year, we send donors to different areas of Cal-Wood to pick out a Christmas tree with their family. They are shown to an area that is heavily forested and taught how to properly cut the tree. Cal-Wood receives financial support, and families get the experience of picking out a tree to bring home for the holidays.

Next year we'll be sure to post before the fundraiser so it's not alarming :-) If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out: jamieATcalwoodDOTorg

And if anyone is interested in supporting Cal-Wood this Colorado Gives Day, please do: Support Cal-Wood on Colorado Gives Day

Have a great week!

Hey Jamie, honest question: for those of us who have heavily forested areas on our own properties and want to do the same, what IS the proper way to cut the tree?

Hey there, there are definitely folks on here who can give more detailed directions. These folks are cutting with hand saws and they're only cutting one Christmas Tree, so we encourage them to cut as low to the ground as comfortable. And straight across. From there, they can choose to saw another part off if they'd like to make it shorter.
