Everyone Sheep on Highway 7

These guys were licking the pavement.  As I drove by, I could hear their tongues on the road.

I often see bighorns in the lower canyon.  Later, during spring and summer I have encountered sheep in the Ironclads, in the upper meadows of the Middle St. Vrain, around Mt. St. Vrain and Buchanan Pass.  I also see sheep on nearly every trip along  I-70 through Georgetown and Glenwood Canyon. 

Unfortunately, the Colorado state mammal population is threatened by respiratory diseases transmitted by domesticated sheep.

The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society does great work in supporting scientific research and education for bighorn conservation.  Recently, the Bighorn Society helped the town of Silver Plume to purchase 200 acres of important bighorn sheep lambing area in the historical mining claims in Brown Gulch and on Republican Mountain.

We are wildlife among the wildlife.
