FOOD PANTRY UPDATE!

We wanted to let you know what is currently happening at your Food Pantry. We receive our food from Boulder Food Rescue which involves our volunteers going on Mondays to Ideal Market in North Boulder and Whole Foods on Pearl St.  We were also receiving food from the Nederland Community Food Pantry. However, due to certain rules, we can no longer receive much of what we were getting from Nederland. Instead now that we have a non-profit here in Jamestown, we can apply to receive food from Community Food Share who works under Feed America.  This is here we can get canned goods, cereals, grains, produce, milk and sometimes eggs and meat.  All the things we were previously getting from Nederland.
To get ready for a site visit from Community Food Share, 10 of our volunteer team spent 2 1/2 hours cleaning the pantry. That's 25 hours total! Thanks go out to Rudiger & Kate, Kate C, Beth B, Kael D, Debbie A, Banyan F, Lynwood W, Alex and myself. We scrubbed, vacuumed, disinfected every table, fridge, and surface in the pantry. We elevated fridges off the floor per regulations and generally tried to make the place shine! Our site visit went well and the main concern is that we have a pest control plan in place before we move forward with our application. We have calls out to several companies (thanks Barbra and Erynn for your referrals!) and are waiting for bids.  We also learned that we will have to pay a $500 annual fee to shop at Community Food Share located in Louisville.  We are hoping to be accepted by the first of the year (January 2023).
Bottom line:  We need to raise funds to pay for the pest control, the $500 annual fee, and hopefully be able to buy gas cards for our drivers and some other necessary supplies to be compliant.
Currently we are seeing over a hundred people a week at our Monday food pantries. Many people now see this pantry not as just a convenience but a necessity to survive the inflated costs of all of our goods and services.  If you are able to donate to this project you can bring cash donations to the pantry (there is a donation box at the pantry), or you can write a check to Jamestown Community Foundation (JACF).  Julie C is working on setting up a Venmo and PayPal account. And of course we can always use more volunteers to work at running the pantry.

Thanks in advance for your attention and generosity,

The Pantry Crew

Shoot! I knew I would forget someone! Charles did the initial shop vac of the entire pantry by himself on Monday night!
