Jamestown Weeds: County Assistance and Educational Weeds Walks
#1
Hi Folks, Kristi just sent out the email alert about this, and I promised to post it here to get the word out Smile

The Boulder County Parks & Open Space Noxious Weeds crew, along with Invasive Plants Specialist Shursteen Sharpe, will be visiting Jamestown in the next few weeks to tackle some invasive weeds in/around town.  This is part of a multi-year effort to get several high-concern species under control, connect with landowners who have questions or need help, and to offer some "weeds walks" to educate us on species identification.

Details for the upcoming events:
County Weeds Crew will be in Jamestown Thursday, August 22nd and Thursday, August 29th from 7:00 am – 2:30 pm for eradication work.
In the morning 7:00 am – 10:30am work will be done on the roadsides and in the Jamestown Parks and other public areas. Anyone is welcome to come join us to learn or add a helping hand. Tools and garbage bags will be on hand but if you have a favorite shovel, bring it.

The rest of the day, the crew will be available to help with plant identification or eradication work on private properties- by request. If you would like to request help on a private property, please email ssharpe@bouldercounty.gov to get on the list. If we receive more requests than we can accommodate we will plan an additional visit.

Shursteen Sharpe, a resource specialist from Parks & Open Space, will be conducting two Weed Walks around town on each day. The first one will be from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm.  The second one will be 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. There is no need to register for the walks, they will be leaving from Elysian Park five minutes from the start time.

Shursteen is an excellent resource and is incredibly knowledgeable about plants, sharing her identification skills to compare invasives and native look-alikes, and the various options for control depending on the species.  It's a great opportunity to learn right here in Jamestown.
